Update

Hi guys!

It’s been a few years since I’ve posted last so I thought I would provide an update no one asked for before I return.

While I was on hiatus, I actually worked for MAC as a makeup artist for 3 years. I obtained internal certifications, did many a makeup application, and spent the time growing and cultivating my love for the beauty industry.

My career with MAC didn’t last nearly as long as I wanted it to, as I moved cities and accepted a more “sturdy” job in insurance. bleh. I’ve been out of the makeup industry for almost a year now and I sincerely miss it. Well, most parts of it. I miss talking about beauty, sharing tips and advice, trying new techniques. I miss the passion I felt for makeup when I first started this blog and when I was fresh in the makeup industry.

Whether or not I’ll end up rejoining the makeup artist ranks and since I’m no longer affiliated with just one specific brand, I figured I’d give this another shot. I originally started this blog to share tips and advice with what works for me, but my experience as a makeup artist has allowed me to grow and explore different techniques and skin tones as well.

If you’re reading this, I’m super glad you’re here. I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy life to spend even a second of it sharing and indulging in my greatest passion with me. I will explain more about my experience with MAC, but for now we’ll leave this as “to be continued”

As always, if you have any thoughts, requests, suggestions, or even your personal experience with the beauty industry as well, I would love to start a conversation!

Thanks again, hope to see you back soon 🙂

Foundation Talk: Vol. 2

Hello again!

Since I have been so sporadic with posting thus far, (things like work and life in general always seem to get in the way of blogging) I am working on creating more content, and not only MORE but a routine for posting as well. For too long I have let things get in the way of what I am really passionate about (writing and makeup), so I’m making a summer resolution to take more time to do the things I love starting… NOW.
If you’re new to my blog and have somehow managed to find yourself in my little dark and dusty corner of the internet, I posted an article called “Foundation Talk” a while back in which I discussed foundation and finding the right foundation match. I’m going to add a little to that with a Vol. 2 and hope to come back to the topic of foundation and update semi-regularly since I have A LOT to say on the matter.
Since I have really struggled over the years with finding the right foundation match, I wanted to talk about MY skin tone, my skin type, the shades that have worked for me, the formulas that haven’t worked out for me, and all of the above in hopes that it might help someone who has similar skin.

MAC Fruity Juicy Review

MACFruityJuicySummer is a big time in the beauty world. In fact, there are few things that are as exciting as the anticipation leading up to the release of summer beauty collections. When I think of summer, I immediately envision bright colors, a bronzy glow, and dewy skin (mostly because my skin is really oily and in the summer I’m finally able to pass it off as dewy). For MAC’s summer 2017 Collection, “Fruity Juicy” (not Juicy Fruit- I have to keep correcting myself), MAC incorporated all of these great summery beauty themes and wrapped it all up in gorgeous tropical inspired packaging that appeals to all the senses.

Like what you’re seeing so far? Keep reading to see my thoughts on the items I was able to score from the collection!

Breakfast at Tiffany’s: OPI Nail Polish Collection

If you’re a nail polish fan, chances are you’ve had your fair share of searching for the perfect Tiffany blue nail polish. I myself own probably about 10 shades of light blue and none of them are the exact, perfect shade of that little blue jewelry box. After years of settling for ordinary blue nail polish (the struggle is very real), I’m happy to announce that this dilemma will be no more. That’s because OPI has come out with a Breakfast at Tiffany’s collection including the iconic baby blue [insert drooling here].

10 Fall Inspired Beauty Releases for 2016

When I stepped outside to head out for work this morning, aside from screaming because a spider ran in as I opened the front door, I started out my day a bit more cheerful than I’ve started others. I took a step outside and got a breath of cool, fresh air instead of humid, sticky heat. Instead of being blinded by the harsh sun, I was greeted with the smell of rain and a nice overcast, grey sky. At first, I couldn’t figure out what was putting me in such a good mood, but now, as I sit at my desk facing the window that overlooks the cloudy scenery, I realize, it’s the weather. Fall is definitely in the air and it is coming fast! That means it will be time to swap out all the summer neons for fall berries and plums before you know it. Here’s a list of 10 recent or upcoming beauty releases that will have you ready for fall.

Rant: Natural Beauty Vs. Makeup

“Natural Beauty” and makeup have no correlation. So to guys, girls, dogs, ducks, whomever; please don’t compare a girl who wears makeup to a girl who “doesn’t have to wear makeup” because she has “natural beauty”. We are all naturally beautiful.

Please stop feeling like it’s okay to make a woman feel like less of a woman because she enjoys lipstick or mascara. You can be naturally beautiful and wear makeup at the same time. Shocker, right?

DIY Liquid Eyeliner: How to turn any eyeshadow into waterproof liquid liner

Wanna find out what $11 product can save you tons of money on waterproof liquid eyeliners this summer? Spent all your money on margaritas and now you need a product that can keep on giving (or duping)? Need a tutorial but don’t want to take 20 minutes out of your tanning time to watch one? Then you’re in the right place, because today I’m going to show you how to make your own version of the colored eyeliner that’s on trend this summer. Beauty on a budget? I’m all for it (less money on eyeliner = more money on pizza and chimichangas. More pizza and more chimichangas = more happy me) Keep reading if you are too!

I recently talked about a product by Inglot called Duraline in my May Favorites post, and today I’m going to show you guys a quick 30 second tutorial on how to use this product.

Watch the video below to find out how to use Duraline, then scroll down to see what products you need to make it happen!

What You’ll Need:

  1. Inglot Duraline
  2. Loose eyeshadow of choice
  3. A tool to scoop the eyeshadow out (I used a manicure tool used for pushing cuticles back)
  4. An eyeliner/eyeshadow brush to mix/apply (I used MAC’s 209 brush)
  5. A small tray, eyeshadow lid, or palette to mix in

What to Do:

  1. After you’ve selected your eyeshadow, use your scooping tool to lightly scrape and scoop some of the shadow out. Then place the scooped shadow onto the mixing tray.
  2. Add Duraline. The applicator of Duraline is in the form of a dropper and a lot of product comes out so you have to be careful to make sure that too much product doesn’t come out. Drop desired amount (less= a thicker more opaque eyeliner, more= a more watery, watercolor eyeliner) directly onto scooped eyeshadow.
  3. Mix to desired consistency using the eyeliner brush (I prefer opaque and thick), then voila! An eyeliner was born!
